The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that a newly formed terrorist group, Lakurawa, is responsible for the recent explosions that devastated two villages in the Dansadau district of Maru Local Government Area (LGA) in Zamfara State.
The Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Shehu Dalijan, disclosed this during a press briefing. According to Dalijan, the explosion at Yar Tasha village along the Dansadau road claimed one life and left three others with varying degrees of injuries.
The tragic incident occurred around 8 a.m. on Wednesday when a commercial vehicle transporting passengers to Dansadau town hit an explosive device believed to have been planted by the terrorists.
Dalijan explained, âYes, there was an explosion along the Dansadau road this morning. It was a bomb planted under a bridge. The motorist triggered it, leading to one death and three injuries. Preliminary investigations suggest that remnants of Lakurawa terrorists, who are under pressure from soldiers to vacate Nigeria, were responsible for planting the explosive.â
He added, âThe terrorists are attempting to escape to the Birnin-Gwari forest en route to Zamfara State. They are under significant pressure from Nigerian security forces. By Godâs grace, we will apprehend them and take decisive action. We urge the public to provide useful information about their movements.â
Repeat Attack Raises Concerns
This marks the second time in a week that an explosive device has been planted along the Dansadau road. On Sunday, a similar incident occurred at Mai-Gungume village, where a commercial driver was killed.
A local source shared insights into the attackers’ tactics, stating, âWe recently conducted community work on the road, and the bandits used that opportunity to plant the device at one of the spots where we filled potholes.â
The victims of the latest explosion were taken to Dansadau General Hospital, but their current condition remains uncertain. Security forces, including soldiers and police, have since been deployed to the site.
Residents fear that the bandits in Zamfara State have adopted a new strategy, particularly in the Dansadau area. âThis is the second time they have planted explosive devices in this region within a week,â a community member noted, urging the government to take swift and decisive action to prevent further incidents. âIf this trend continues, road travel will become increasingly dangerous,â the resident added.
