Gunmen have abducted passengers traveling in an 18-seater bus along Emure-Ile in Emure Local Government Area of Ekiti State. The incident, reported by Chronicles Reporters, occurred on Sunday night when the bus, returning from Onitsha in Anambra State to Ado-Ekiti, was intercepted by the armed attackers.
A source from the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Ado-Ekiti Motor Terminal branch, revealed that the driver of the bus, identified as Mr. Sunday Emmanuel, was among those taken hostage. According to the source, the kidnappers have reached out to the driver’s family, demanding a ransom of ₦30 million for each abducted passenger.
“The driver and passengers were all kidnapped, and the assailants are asking for ₦30 million per person,” the source explained.
However, some children traveling in the bus were left behind by the kidnappers. Their cries reportedly drew the attention of passersby early Monday morning, leading to a prompt alert to the authorities. The matter was immediately reported to the nearest police station.
