
A tragic fire outbreak in the Rangaza community, Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State, claimed the lives of 67-year-old Muhammad Uba and his wife, 52-year-old Fatima Muhammad, in the early hours of Friday.
Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, the spokesperson for the Kano State Fire Service, confirmed the incident. He disclosed that the control room received an emergency call at about 1:45 a.m. from FS Ahmad Abubakar, prompting an immediate response.
“Firefighters from the Bompai Fire Station were dispatched to the scene and arrived at approximately 1:51 a.m.,” Abdullahi stated. “Upon their arrival, the fire had already been brought under control by locals.”
He explained that two rooms in the couple’s home were completely engulfed in flames. “The victims, Muhammad Uba and his wife, Fatima Muhammad, were trapped by thick smoke. They were rescued unconscious with burns on parts of their bodies but were later confirmed dead,” Abdullahi added.
The remains of the deceased were handed over to the ward head, Muhammad Auwalu Rayyanu, while authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
