The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring polytechnics in Nigeria adhere to their primary objectives as centers for skill development, research, and innovation. This assurance underscores the government’s resolve to maintain the integrity of technical education in the country.
The NBTE, as the regulatory body, emphasized its dedication to producing graduates equipped with the necessary skills, research capabilities, and innovative mindset to drive Nigeria’s development agenda. Speaking in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State, the NBTE Executive Secretary, Professor Idris Bugaje, highlighted these commitments during a visit to Montgomery Polytechnic’s permanent site for an accreditation inspection. The visit is part of preparations for the institution’s anticipated commencement of operations in 2025.
Led by the Director of New Institutions, Hajia Bilikisu Daku, the NBTE delegation inspected the facilities at the polytechnic’s site along the Ikere-Iju road. Representing Professor Bugaje, Engr. Rasak Shoremekun praised the institution’s modern infrastructure, noting that meeting quality standards will enhance the global standing of Nigeria’s polytechnic education.
Shoremekun lauded Montgomery Polytechnic’s efforts in establishing state-of-the-art facilities and urged the management to maintain these standards once academic activities begin. Stressing the importance of research and skill acquisition, he described polytechnic education as a cornerstone for economic advancement. “No country can achieve significant innovation or development without prioritizing research and skill acquisition,” he said.
He added, “Under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Education, the Federal Government remains steadfast in ensuring polytechnics adhere to the set standards. Our goal is to produce skilled, innovative, and research-oriented graduates.”
The founder of Montgomery Polytechnic, Honourable Femi Bamisile, expressed his commitment to advancing education in Nigeria. Bamisile, a member representing Gbonyin/Emure/Ekiti East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, called for public and governmental support to realize his vision for the institution. “Polytechnic education is crucial for the nation’s success. The reality of producing skilled and innovative graduates cannot be overstated,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the institution’s Rector, Dr. Francis Olowe, assured that preparations are in full swing for the commencement of academic activities once the NBTE grants accreditation. He listed some of the courses slated for accreditation, including Accountancy, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Science Laboratory Technology.
