
Bandits operating in the forests of Taraba and Benue States have reportedly fled their hideouts following a decisive invasion by the Nigerian Army and other security agencies. According to a statement issued by the military on Sunday, troops from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, dealt a severe blow to the criminal elements during the operation.
Operation Golden Peace
The statement revealed that the operation, codenamed “Operation Golden Peace,” was launched to restore peace and security across the affected areas. The security operatives overwhelmed the bandits during the encounter, forcing them to abandon their hideouts.
Items Recovered During the Raid
During the clearance operation conducted on December 7, 2024, in Akahagu and China villages of Ukum Local Government Area in Benue State, the troops extended their efforts to Ikayor village. There, they confronted bandits linked to the infamous criminal Akiki Utiv, also known as “Full Fire.” The bandits fled as the troops employed overwhelming firepower, leaving behind several recovered items.
Recovered items included a red Toyota Corolla vehicle, a motorcycle, a Beretta pistol, and a pair of military camouflage trousers.
Military’s Assurance of Safety
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, commended the troops for their bravery and determination during the operation. He reassured the residents of Benue and Taraba States of the military’s commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring their safety.
