Gregory Maduakolam, a deputy editor at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), has been freed after spending two harrowing days in captivity.
According to Chronicles Reporter’s, Maduakolam confirmed his release during phone calls with colleagues on Saturday. He revealed that his family secured his freedom by paying an undisclosed amount as ransom.
Recounting his ordeal, Maduakolam said he endured harsh treatment at the hands of his captors. He explained that the abduction occurred in Irete, a suburb near Owerri, while he was inspecting rental properties alongside a friend and an agent.
“After agreeing on the part payment and other charges with the agent, I prepared to board a commercial motorcycle to Owerri. Suddenly, five young men emerged from the vicinity and forcefully took me away,” Maduakolam narrated.
He disclosed that the kidnappers seized his mobile phone and drained his bank account by making withdrawals.
Maduakolam expressed profound gratitude to God, his family, and everyone who showed concern during the ordeal. He specifically thanked the management and staff of NAN for their support throughout the trying time.
