A 15-year-old boy, Chibuike Damian Onyebuchi, who was reportedly abducted in Onitsha, Anambra State, has been rescued in Kogi State after managing to escape from his captors.
Chibuike, a native of Ihiala Local Government Area, narrated that he was seized by unknown individuals and taken to an undisclosed location. After his daring escape, he found himself stranded in Kogi, where he was eventually helped by kind-hearted individuals who escorted him to a nearby police station.
The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the incident. According to its spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, efforts are underway to reunite Chibuike with his family.
Ikenga appealed to residents of Onitsha and Ihiala to provide any information that could assist the police in their investigation into the kidnapping.
In a statement, he said, “The police command calls on the general public, particularly residents of Onitsha and Ihiala environs, to assist in identifying Chibuike Damian Onyebuchi, a 15-year-old boy who hails from Ihiala LGA, Anambra State. He was abducted in Onitsha and later found in Kogi State. He is currently in the safe custody of the Kogi State Police Command.”
The statement also revealed that during an interview with the boy, he recounted how he was kidnapped by unidentified individuals in Onitsha and transported to an unknown location before escaping.
“To this end, the command seeks the assistance of the public, especially members of the media, to widely disseminate this information alongside the boy’s picture to facilitate his identification and reunification with his family,” Ikenga added.
This incident underscores the need for heightened security in Anambra State and vigilance among residents to prevent similar occurrences.
