The Hisbah Board in Yobe State has destroyed over 170 bottles of alcoholic beverages valued at N450,000. The operation took place in Gashua, located in Bade Local Government Area, following a patrol led by Hisbah officials.

Reports indicate that the alcoholic drinks were confiscated during a raid at a local hotel. In addition to the seizure, a vendor linked to the sales was arrested and subsequently jailed for violating the state’s alcohol prohibition laws.

Ibrahim Babagana Yurema, the Chairman of Bade Local Government Area, led the operation and emphasized Hisbah’s commitment to enforcing the ban on alcohol. Yurema stated that the initiative is aimed at addressing the growing issue of alcohol consumption among young people.

“This council remains determined to combat immoral activities and protect our community from their harmful effects,” Yurema said, highlighting the detrimental impact of alcohol on mental health and its incompatibility with Islamic values.

Further details from the Zonal Commandant of the Hisbah Board for Yobe North, Malam Isah Ibrahim, revealed that the confiscation and destruction of the alcohol followed a Sharia Court ruling. The court found the alcohol vendor guilty, sentenced him to imprisonment, and ordered the destruction of the seized beverages.

The Hisbah Board has reiterated its resolve to uphold Islamic principles and ensure the eradication of practices deemed harmful to societal values.
