Press Statement

The Take It Back Movement, Kaduna Chapter, expresses deep concern over the recent arrest and detention of Cyrus Reggae whose stage name is Lucent,  by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday 13 November 2024.  Lucent is an artiste under the Black Roots Entertainment Record Label.

We are calling for the immediate release of the artiste from custody while the EFCC continues any necessary investigations.

Artistes play a crucial role in our society, often serving as voices for the voiceless and reflecting the sentiments of the people through their craft.

The detention of Lucent raises questions about the freedom of expression and the treatment of creative individuals within our legal system. A close associate to Lucent, informed T.I.B that the artist was arrested by the EFCC during a raid at Apple Gate suites in Kaduna, and after probing him, nothing was found against him except his dreadlocks but he is still in detention despite sending a legal representation to facilitate Lucent’s bail.

While we respect the EFCC’s mandate to combat corruption and uphold the law, we urge the commission to recognize the importance of due process and human rights. Detaining individuals without charge for extended periods undermines the principles of justice and could hinder the ongoing investigations.

We believe that granting Lucent his freedom will not only uphold his rights but also demonstrate the EFCC’s commitment to fair treatment of all citizens, regardless of their profession. We trust that the EFCC will carry out its responsibilities diligently while allowing the artiste to continue his work and contribute to society.

We support the EFCC efforts in curbing cyber crime and Internet fraudulent activities and they should deal with anyone found guilty.

We call on the EFCC to act swiftly and humanely in resolving this situation and to ensure that the rights of all individuals are upheld throughout the investigation process.
