A devastating boat accident in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West, Delta State, has resulted in the deaths of over 30 passengers, including a one-year-old child.

The tragedy unfolded when a speedboat, which had been returning from a burial ceremony, struck a submerged log, causing the vessel to capsize. According to reports, many passengers were thrown into the river, and most of them were unable to swim or wear life jackets, significantly increasing the death toll.

Among the victims, the lifeless body of a young toddler was found floating along the creek. While the search and rescue teams are still combing the area, the chances of finding additional survivors are growing slimmer with each passing hour.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the boat had been speeding when the collision occurred. One witness recalled the horrifying sight of passengers struggling to stay afloat amidst the chaos.

Authorities are working to gather more details, with Delta State Police Public Relations Officer Bright Edafe assuring the public that further updates would be provided as investigations continue, according to the Daily Post.
