Libyan authorities have detained four Nigerian nationals in separate incidents in the towns of Sabha and Bani Walid. The arrests were linked to allegations of drug trafficking and positive tests for infectious diseases.
In Sabha, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) raided a property where two Nigerians were reportedly involved in drug-related activities. During the operation, authorities seized 1,200 hallucinogenic pills along with other illegal substances. The suspects were subsequently handed over to the Sabha Security Directorate for further investigation.
“Migrant Rescue Watch,” an advocacy organization, confirmed the arrests on Monday, stating, “CID in Sabha carried out a raid on a reported location and arrested two Nigerian drug traffickers. During a search of the premises, police found 1,200 hallucinogenic pills and other illicit drugs. Both individuals were transferred to the Sabha Security Directorate.”
In a separate incident, Libyan authorities detained another Nigerian pair—a male and a female—during routine health screenings in Bani Walid, a migrant transit hub south of Tripoli. The duo reportedly tested positive for infectious diseases.
According to a statement released by “Migrant Rescue Watch” on Tuesday, the Directorate for Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM) in Bani Walid apprehended the individuals and transferred them to Tripoli for further medical assessment and eventual deportation.
“DCIM Bureau in Bani Walid transferred two Nigerian migrants (female and male) who tested positive for infectious diseases to Tripoli for repatriation,” the statement read.
