Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has urged Nigerians to exercise patience amidst rising costs of goods, assuring them that the reforms implemented by President Bola Tinubu’s administration will yield tangible benefits by the end of its first term in 2027.
During an inspection of road and bridge projects in the Gwagwalada Area Council, Wike emphasized that infrastructure development is pivotal to economic growth. He highlighted the impact of poor infrastructure on the surging prices of goods, stating that improved roads would enable farmers to transport produce more efficiently, thereby reducing costs.
“If there was no road, why would the price of goods not go high? By the time these roads are completed and farmers can access their farms, it will reduce,” Wike explained. He added that basic infrastructure is essential for transforming any economy, and the current administration is prioritizing development in both urban and rural areas to stimulate economic activity.
Wike acknowledged public criticisms but expressed confidence that visible changes would prompt Nigerians to appreciate the administration’s efforts. “Criticisms must always be there, but let the people see for themselves. Before this administration ends its first tenure, Nigerians will say, indeed, things have really changed,” he said.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to the “Renewed Hope Agenda,” which aims to foster development and rekindle optimism among Nigerians. Wike underscored the importance of government presence in both urban and satellite communities, citing completed projects like the Aguma Palace road and those connecting Radio Nigeria as evidence of progress.
“The joy of residents and business owners shows that they feel the presence of government. Nobody who sees good things will not appreciate it,” Wike remarked. He assured citizens that the government is dedicated to improving their lives and reversing the challenges of the past.
