During an interview on Arise TV, Femi Onanuga addressed the reasons behind the continued appointment of Minister of State for Agriculture, Muhammad Matawalle, despite ongoing accusations against him. The Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has repeatedly claimed that Matawalle has been secretly collaborating with bandits in the northwest. However, Onanuga firmly dismissed these allegations as baseless.
He explained that the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) conducted an investigation into the claims regarding Matawalle’s alleged connections with bandits and concluded that they were unfounded and politically motivated.
Onanuga stated, “As far as I know, most of those things are just mere allegations. I even sent something related to this to the NSA and asked, ‘Have you heard about this?’ The NSA responded that they had probed numerous such claims and found them to be false.”
He emphasized that the allegations were fabrications aimed at discrediting Matawalle. “People are just bringing up all kinds of fake accusations. That is why Matawalle remains in the cabinet. I’m sure the president has heard many stories about him, and the fact that he is still there shows that these issues have been investigated and found to be untrue. The NSA office has already looked into some of these allegations, and they are mere fabrications.”
