President Bola Tinubu has officially submitted the names of seven nominees for ministerial positions to the Senate for confirmation. This was conveyed in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary session.

In his letter, Tinubu requested that the Senate give due consideration and approval for the nominated individuals to fill various ministerial roles. Notably, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda has been nominated to head the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, while Muhammadu Dingyadi has been proposed for the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

Among the nominees is Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, a former ambassador to Spain and the widow of Dim Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who is nominated for the position of Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

Other names on the list include Dr. Jumoke Oduwole for Industry, Trade and Investment, Idi Mukhtar Maiha for Livestock Development, Yusuf Ata for Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, and Dr. Suwaiba Ahmad for Minister of State for Education.

It is worth noting that Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu is not a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as she holds a prominent position in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

These nominees are scheduled to face screening during next week’s Senate plenary session. Senate President Akpabio has referred the list to the Committee of the Whole for further legislative review.

This development comes after SaharaReporters reported on Wednesday that President Tinubu had sacked five ministers from his cabinet. The dismissed ministers include Barr. Uju-Ken Ohanenye (Minister of Women Affairs), Lola Ade-John (Minister of Tourism), Prof Tahir Mamman SAN OON (Minister of Education), Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo (Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development), and Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim (Minister of Youth Development).

In addition to these sackings, the President also reassigned several current ministers to new roles. The ministers affected by the reshuffle include Hon. Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa, Barr. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, and Hon. Abubakar Eshiokpekha Momo.

Notably, Tanko Sununu, previously the Minister of State for Education, will now serve as the Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, while Dr. Alausa, formerly Minister of State for Health, has been reassigned as Minister of Education. Goronyo, who served as Minister of State for Water Resources and Sanitation, will now take on the role of Minister of State for Works.
