The Sokoto State Police Command has apprehended an 18-year-old suspect, Abba Aliyu, in connection with the kidnapping of a two-year-old boy, Sa’idu Ibrahim. The arrest was made after Ibrahim Shehu, the child’s father, reported on October 16, 2024, that his son had been missing for three days.
In a statement released by the Command’s Spokesperson, ASP Rufa’e Abubakar, the police disclosed that the kidnapper initially demanded a ransom of N2 million. However, after negotiations, the amount was reduced to N500,000, which the family paid before the child was safely returned.
Following an investigation, police detectives were able to trace the suspect to Badon Hanya, an area near Zamson Filling Station in Sokoto. During the arrest, the officers recovered a Tecno Android phone used to make the ransom demands.
The suspect, Aliyu, confessed to the crime, admitting that he kidnapped the child to extort money from the family, who are his neighbors in the Badon Hanya community.
