A tragic multi-vehicle collision on Akanran Road in Ibadan, Oyo State, has resulted in the deaths of six individuals, with five others injured. The accident involved two tricycles, a haulage truck carrying tiles, and a lorry filled with soft drinks.
The incident occurred on Monday at Oke Eleshin in the Ona Ara Local Government Area. Among the injured was a young pupil whose mother lost her life in the crash. Two children received outpatient treatment at Amuloko City Hospital, while two others with serious injuries were admitted for further care, according to reports from The PUNCH.
An anonymous source from the Oyo Road Transport Maintenance Agency revealed that the accident happened early in the morning due to brake failure on the descending trailer. Eyewitnesses described how the truck lost control and collided with one of the tricycles, commonly known as Keke NAPEP.
“We learned that six people died, and five were injured. All have been taken from the scene,” one witness stated. Bystanders criticized the truck driver for failing to swerve into a ditch to avoid the oncoming tricycle. The collision also damaged two additional vehicles, contributing to significant traffic delays in the area.
Raji Wale, the Managing Director of Amuloko City Hospital, confirmed that several victims were admitted there. “Six victims were brought in with various injuries, and two have been treated as outpatients,” he noted.
Mary Alo, the state Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, acknowledged the accident but mentioned that she had not yet received complete details.
