In a brutal confrontation between rival bandit groups in Katsina State, at least 20 people have lost their lives, including key leaders and their followers. The violent clash took place early Wednesday morning and is believed to be part of a territorial dispute in the Dan-Ali community of the Dan-Musa local government area.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama provided details about the incident through a post on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting that the fighting involved the Mai Nore gang and the Buzaro terrorist group. He stated, “A fierce battle erupted today between Mai Nore’s gang and the Buzaro group in the Dan-Ali area. Intelligence sources report significant casualties, with over 20 bodies discovered at the scene.”
Eyewitness accounts described the scene as chaotic, with sustained gunfire ringing out across the area. Additionally, many bandits were reported to have sustained injuries during the conflict.
Dr. Hussain Bala, a lecturer at Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), commented on the clash, noting that it stemmed from ongoing territorial disputes regarding control over resources. “This was a conflict over who should dominate certain areas based on available resources and long-standing rivalries,” he explained.
He further emphasized that the loss of life among the bandits should not be seen as a cause for celebration. “It doesn’t call for any celebration,” Bala remarked regarding the violent encounter.
