A Queensland man has been shot by police following an alleged confrontation where he reportedly fired at officers during a high-speed chase. The incident unfolded late last night when Polair, the police air unit, began tracking a reportedly stolen Suzuki Vitara in Brown Plains, Logan, around 6:40 p.m.

Police deployed tyre deflation spikes, bringing the vehicle to a halt near Brown Plains Road. However, when officers approached, the driver allegedly fired at them, prompting a pursuit at about 7:50 p.m. As the chase continued, the suspect reportedly fired more shots at the police.

The Suzuki Vitara was found abandoned by police at Central Court in Hillcrest around 8:20 p.m. The driver then allegedly fled in a waiting stolen Kia Cerato. Polair continued to track the Cerato, leading officers to a property in Bix Court, Crestmead. An emergency declaration was made under the Public Safety Preservation Act, and an exclusion zone was set up, stretching from Waratah Drive to Augusta Street and Chambers Flat Road.

By 8:40 p.m., police negotiators and specialist units were brought in to handle the situation. After a tense standoff lasting several hours, the suspect was shot by police at 12:40 a.m. today.

First aid was administered at the scene before the man was transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. No officers were injured during the incident.

The Ethical Standards Command will conduct an investigation into the shooting.
