Popular Nigerian singer Portable recently shared a shocking account of an attempt on his life. In a viral video, the visibly shaken artist could be heard exclaiming, “They want to kill me!” The footage also captured the dramatic moment when a half-naked man, believed to be the attacker, was apprehended while holding a gun.
In the background, bystanders could be heard asking, “Who pulled the trigger?” as tension filled the air. Efforts to get a statement from the Ogun State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the spokesperson, SP Odutola Omolola, did not respond to calls or messages. The motive behind the attack remains unclear at this time.
Known for his controversial personality, Portable expressed relief after narrowly escaping the incident. This comes on the heels of a recent confrontation between Portable and social media critic, VeryDarkMan (VDM), who had called out the singer for assaulting a man during Felabration, an event celebrating the life of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti.
VDM had posted a video of Portable hitting a man in a toilet, criticizing the singer’s behavior and urging him to stop assaulting people. In response, Portable posted a video on Instagram, where he threatened VDM, boasting about his strength and warning him to look into his reputation in Abuja.
Portable stated, “Online madness is different from real life madness. I will bend you, I will mend you. I will cripple you. I am a one-man battalion. If I hold you… You are using Abuja to threaten me? Go and ask about me in Maraba, Nyanya, and Babangida Market. Go and ask about Lagos boy.”
He went on to explain what triggered the altercation at Felabration, revealing that the man he assaulted had allegedly taken money for five of his shows and disappeared for six months. Portable expressed frustration, asking, “Are you my manager?”
