On Monday, Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono Itam, led a team of police operatives to the site of a tragic incident in Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area, where multiple individuals lost their lives in cult-related violence over the weekend.

During the visit, the police commissioner expressed concerns that some relatives of the deceased may be attempting to conceal evidence, hinder the flow of information, and obstruct the police investigation into the killings.

Videos circulating on social media revealed at least seven bodies on the ground, including victims identified as Urchman and Ejike. However, Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, reported that the official count stands at five fatalities, with three others sustaining serious injuries and currently receiving medical care.

Ikenga emphasized that the police force remains dedicated to thoroughly investigating the incident and apprehending those responsible for the violence. He noted that efforts have been intensified to ensure that no leads are overlooked in the pursuit of the assailants.

“The Command is also displeased with the actions of some relatives of the deceased, who are reportedly trying to bury evidence, suppress vital information, and disrupt the ongoing investigation,” the police spokesperson stated.
