Operatives from the Anti-kidnap Unit of the FCT Police Command have apprehended three suspected kidnappers involved in the abduction of pastors from ECWA Church in Bwari Area Council, FCT. The arrests were made following a raid on the kidnappers’ hideout located in Kweri Forest, which lies on the border between Kaduna and the FCT, as revealed by CP Olatunji Disu during a press briefing on Tuesday.

CP Disu explained that the suspects were responsible for a series of kidnappings and armed robberies, particularly targeting pastors’ quarters in Dnapoyi village, Bwari Area Council, Mpape village, and Daupe village. He identified the arrested suspects as Hussaini Adamu, Yau Adamu, and Aminu Adamu, all members of a gang led by Gwan Umar, who is believed to be based in the forests of Kaduna State.

The suspects reportedly confessed to the killing of one Comfort Oyanga and the kidnapping of Felix Sanyo and Julius Oyanga in Daupe, Tafa LGA of Niger State. The victims’ families were forced to pay ₦80 million in ransom.

Additionally, the suspects were linked to the abduction of Dimas Maisamari and others in Mpape, FCT, who were also taken to the Kaduna forest. The kidnappers collected millions of naira in ransom from the victims’ families.

During the operation, police recovered significant weapons, including two AK-47 rifles, 85 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition, three AK-47 magazines, and a locally-made gun. CP Disu assured the public that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects still on the police’s wanted list.
