Peter Obi, former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has criticized President Bola Tinubu for sending Vice President Kashim Shettima abroad while both leaders are outside the country.

Obi pointed out that Tinubu, who is on a leave and reportedly in Paris, France, sent the Vice President to attend an event in Stockholm, Sweden, despite the President’s proximity to the venue.

Obi described this decision as irresponsible and insensitive, especially given Nigeria’s domestic challenges. He argued that Tinubu, who has been away for over 14 days, should have returned earlier to address the country’s pressing issues or attended the Sweden event himself, as the distance between Paris and Stockholm is relatively short compared to the trip from Nigeria.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Obi criticized the waste of resources and time involved in sending the Vice President, emphasizing that the decision lacked fiscal responsibility at a time when Nigerians are enduring severe hardship due to government policies. He called for more decisive leadership and prudent management of the nation’s scarce resources to alleviate the suffering of the people.
