A Nigerian woman, Olubunmi Okeniyi, has tragically passed away just weeks after relocating to the United Kingdom with her two children. Mrs. Okeniyi, who arrived in Sunderland on September 16, 2024, died on Sunday, October 13.
The unfortunate news was confirmed by the Nigerian community in the UK through a statement shared on the social media platform X on Monday. In the statement, the community expressed their heartfelt condolences and announced the launch of a GoFundMe campaign to help cover her burial costs.
The message read, “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mrs. Olubunmi Okeniyi, who sadly died on 13/10/24 at 4:30 p.m. in Sunderland, UK. Mrs. Okeniyi, who relocated from Nigeria with her two sons on 16/09/24, is survived by her husband, Mr. Jacob Okeniyi. We are in urgent need of donations to support her immediate burial, as her husband is unable to meet the expenses. Any contribution, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated during this difficult period.”
