The Nigerian Police Force has launched an investigation into serious allegations made by Young C Entertainment regarding the conduct of the Anti-Narcotics Unit and the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Owerri. The inquiry, directed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police overseeing the IGP X-Squad, aims to uncover the truth behind the viral claims circulating on social media.

The Commissioner of Police has assured the public that any officer found guilty of misconduct will face disciplinary measures in line with the Force’s regulations. Additionally, the supervising officer involved will also be held accountable for their actions.

The complainant, along with his film production crew, has been urged to report to the IGP X-Squad in Owerri to assist with the ongoing investigation. The Imo State Police Command emphasizes its dedication to upholding the law and safeguarding citizens’ rights.

SaharaReporters reported on Monday that Young C Entertainment shared a video, posted by user Somto Okonkwo, detailing the harassment and unlawful detention experienced by the actor and his crew from Friday to Saturday by officers from the Imo State CID and the Anti-Narcotics Unit.

In the video, the actor stated that after a thorough search revealed no incriminating items, the officers proceeded to detain them illegally when they refused to pay a bribe of N1.5 million.

In a 13-minute, 52-second clip, Okonkwo recounted how police officers intercepted them while they were heading to the MTN office to retrieve a lost SIM card. Despite identifying himself as a journalist and a member of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), he claims the officers demanded the hefty bribe, accusing them of carrying counterfeit US dollars intended as movie props.

Okonkwo has called for urgent intervention from Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, Governor Hope Uzodimma, and blogger Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, to address the plight of the innocent individuals detained by police.
