The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Katsina has apprehended a suspected cocaine trafficker who was attempting to travel to Niger Republic. The newly appointed State Commander, Mr. Mohammed Aminu-Abubakar, made this known during his first briefing with journalists in Katsina on Tuesday.

Aminu-Abubakar revealed that the suspect was caught with approximately 0.642 kilograms of a substance believed to be cocaine. The arrest occurred on October 2, along the Kano-Kankia road, thanks to the vigilant efforts of the NDLEA officers. Aminu-Abubakar, who took over his position last Friday, stated that the case is under investigation and that the suspect will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is completed.

The new commander also pledged to use every legal means available to combat drug trafficking and distribution in the state. He emphasized that the agency has equipped facilities for the rehabilitation of individuals suffering from drug addiction and urged people to avoid substance abuse, stressing that it offers no benefits.

He further encouraged residents to take advantage of the drug test kits as a preventive measure to curb drug use. Aminu-Abubakar assured that he would work closely with NDLEA officers, other security agencies, and community stakeholders to tackle the menace of drug abuse in Katsina.

Aminu-Abubakar was previously stationed at the NDLEA Strategic Command at Tin-Can Island Port in Lagos. He replaces Mr. Hassan Sani, who has been reassigned to the agency’s national headquarters.
