Udoh, a member of a five-man robbery gang, was accused of breaking into the home of Emeka Ruben and stealing a Lifan rubber motorcycle valued at N1.2 million.

The incident was confirmed by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, on Friday. According to her, Udoh was caught alongside 22-year-old Peter Ubong by youths in the community after receiving a distress call from the victim.

Odutola explained that on October 18, 2024, at around 7:20 a.m., the Chairman of the Community Development Association (CDA) in Atayo Okeigbo, Aruba Sagamu, reported that a group of thieves had invaded the area at about 2:00 a.m. They broke into Ruben’s home and made off with his motorcycle.

Upon hearing the victim’s cries for help, local youths rushed to the scene and apprehended Peter Ubong and John Udoh, who were in possession of an operational motorcycle with registration number SGM 387 WB.

The Police PRO further stated that three other suspects, identified as Adaka, Stepen, and Jerssy, managed to escape with the stolen motorcycle. The arrested suspects later confessed to stealing 15 solar streetlights from the community, as well as two additional motorcycles in previous burglaries.

Both Udoh and Ubong were severely beaten by the mob before the police arrived. Ubong was taken to the hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment, while Udoh was pronounced dead by doctors at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) in Sagamu. His body has been deposited in the morgue.
