A Lagos resident participating in the ongoing #FearlessInOctober protests has expressed her despair over extreme hunger and hardship under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The woman, who has been struggling to care for her children and elderly mother, shared her distress, stating that her children hadn’t eaten breakfast by Tuesday afternoon when she joined the demonstrations.

She explained that she once owned a shop filled with drinks, but now it sits empty. Speaking in Yoruba, she reflected on her initial happiness when Tinubu was elected in 2023, believing that “Jagaban” would bring positive change, only to feel let down by his governance.

She said, “My children haven’t eaten breakfast. What if I give up and poison myself? I can’t even give my mother money because I have nothing left. I refuse to turn to prostitution; I don’t want to end up being used for rituals.”

The woman lamented her former success, recalling, “I used to sell drinks, and my shop was full, but now it’s completely empty. When ‘Baba’ was declared president, we felt joy because ‘Jagaban’ was taking charge, but now we’re suffering.”

She added, “If I were to take my own life, my tragedy would be greater than that of MohBad. Our leaders were born just like us, yet they seem indifferent to our suffering. I’ve even stopped giving my mother money for food because I simply can’t afford it anymore.”
