Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has provided an updated casualty report following the tragic petrol tanker explosion on October 16 in Majiya village, located in the Taura Local Government Area.

Governor Namadi revealed that 181 people lost their lives, 80 others were hospitalized, and 210 families were affected by the devastating explosion.

During a meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja, the governor announced that the state has formed a committee, headed by a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, to investigate the cause of the explosion and provide answers to the tragedy.

The tanker explosion was first reported by SaharaReporters, stating that the incident took place at approximately 12:30 a.m. The tanker, carrying petrol from Kano to Nguru in Yobe State, crashed, causing a massive blast.

Reports indicate that some villagers were trying to collect fuel from the overturned tanker when the explosion occurred, contributing to the high casualty figures.

Governor Namadi confirmed that “181 people have been confirmed dead, 80 are receiving treatment in hospitals, and 210 families have been severely impacted.”

The governor also added that the state government has taken on the responsibility of covering the medical expenses for the victims.
