An Israeli airstrike on a mosque in the Gaza Strip early Sunday resulted in the deaths of at least 19 individuals.
The mosque, situated near the main hospital in Deir al-Balah, was reportedly being used as a shelter for displaced persons.
According to reports from the Associated Press, the bodies of the deceased, all men, were taken to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital morgue, where hospital records confirmed their identities.
Israel asserted that the strike targeted a Hamas command center located among civilians, and it has escalated its military operations against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, broadening its campaign against groups aligned with Iran.
Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee stated, “We are in a new phase of the war,” and urged residents in northern Gaza to evacuate.
In Beirut, Israeli forces conducted strikes on Hezbollah positions throughout the night, while Hezbollah claimed to have retaliated by targeting Israeli soldiers with a rocket barrage.
Iran’s foreign minister mentioned ongoing efforts to achieve a ceasefire in both Gaza and Lebanon.
The Palestinian death toll has reached approximately 42,000, according to health officials. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized, “Israel has the duty and the right to defend itself.”
