Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, declared on Saturday that the assassination of Yahya Sinwar, a top leader of Hamas, would not slow the momentum of the “Axis of Resistance.”
In a solemn address, Khamenei acknowledged the loss but insisted that the movement remains strong and unyielding. “His death is indeed a hardship for the Axis of Resistance, but this front has never stopped advancing, even with the martyrdom of its leaders,” he affirmed.
Khamenei further remarked, “Hamas is alive and will continue to thrive.”
According to Reuters, Ismail Sinwar, who orchestrated Hamas’ October 7, 2023, assault on Israel, igniting the ongoing Gaza conflict, was killed during a confrontation with Israeli forces on Wednesday. His death, confirmed a day later, followed a lengthy manhunt.
Praising Sinwar, Khamenei described him as “a beacon of resistance and struggle,” adding that Sinwar’s decisive actions during the October 7 attacks inflicted a severe blow to their adversaries, marking a pivotal moment in the region’s history. “With honor and dignity, he ascended to martyrdom,” Khamenei added.
The “Axis of Resistance” refers to a coalition backed by Iran, including groups such as Hamas, Lebanon’s Hezbollah, Yemen’s Houthi movement, and various Shi’ite factions in Iraq and Syria. These groups collectively challenge Israeli and U.S. presence in the Middle East.
“As before, we will stand by the sincere fighters and warriors, by the grace and aid of God,” Khamenei concluded.
