At a recent event celebrating the elevation of Yunus Abdulsalam to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), former National Security Adviser Dasuki humorously remarked that he felt “ambushed” into giving a speech. He admitted, “While I don’t usually enjoy public speaking, I must embrace this unexpected honor.”

Dasuki continued, reflecting on the irony of being “ambushed” by lawyers, stating, “I thought ambushes were confined to military scenarios, not something I would experience at a ceremony honoring a distinguished legal practitioner like Barr. Yunus Abdulsalam.” He praised Abdulsalam for being a vigorous advocate against injustice, congratulating him on his achievements and wishing everyone a joyful occasion.

Abdulsalam’s induction as one of the youngest SANs in 2024 marks a significant milestone in his career. With expertise in areas including litigation, mediation, arbitration, corporate finance, and more, he is poised for further success. Born on June 30, 1986, he graduated from Bayero University in Kano in 2010 and completed his studies at the Nigerian Law School in 2011. He also holds an executive certificate in employment law from Lincoln University in the UK.

In addition to his legal practice, Abdulsalam serves as the Legal Adviser to the Forum of Spokespersons of Security and Response Agencies (FOSSRA) and the Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC). He is also the Board Secretary for Image Merchants Promotion Ltd, PRNigeria, and Economic Confidential.

Well-wishes poured in from dignitaries including the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, and Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, President of the MAAUN Group of Universities. The Emir praised Abdulsalam’s “intelligence, commitment, and patriotism,” expressing pride in his accomplishments and wishing him continued success.

Professor Gwarzo commended Abdulsalam for exemplifying “high standards of legal practice and professional integrity,” expressing confidence in his contributions to Nigeria’s justice sector and legal reforms.

The event attracted a variety of dignitaries, including bankers, entrepreneurs, politicians, and technocrats. Notable attendees included Senator Ibrahim Oloriegbe, Dr. Yusuf Lawal, Alhaji Abdulbaqi Jimoh, and others from various sectors.
