The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has restored power after a brief disturbance to the national grid. Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager for Public Affairs, made this known in a statement on Saturday in Abuja.
According to Mbah, engineers at the Jebba Transmission Sub-station successfully isolated a faulty current transformer through switching operations. The engineers also reconfigured the busbar setup, which allowed power supply to be restored to the affected station and other parts of the grid.
A report from the National Control Center (NCC) indicated that the disruption was caused by an explosion of a current transformer in the 330kV section of the Jebba Transmission Sub-station.
“As anticipated, the protection system was triggered, immediately opening the busbars to contain the explosion. This prevented a fire outbreak and further damage to nearby equipment,” Mbah explained.
She added that the activation of the protection system caused a temporary disturbance on the grid but was essential to minimizing potential harm.
