A suspect, Jonathan Arin, shared on Wednesday that his venture into illegal gun-making stemmed from years of unsuccessful job applications, including attempts to join the police force. Arin, paraded alongside three accomplices at the state police command, explained that his lack of employment after graduation made him dependent on his father, creating a sense of frustration and helplessness.
Arin said, “After graduating, I struggled to find a job. I felt like a burden to my father, who had to support me financially. This was very distressing. Besides that, my community faces a lot of criminal activities, and we’ve been searching for ways to curb the issue. I believed I could contribute to tackling crime, which led me to get involved in this line of work.”
State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, provided details on the arrest of Arin and his three accomplices. According to Adesina, on October 16, 2024, around 7 a.m., the police command’s Eagle Eye Patrol Unit (EEPU) acted on reliable intelligence, leading to the arrest of Arin, along with Moses Festus (27), Sambo Audu (30), and Nehemiah Yakubu (25), all from Angwan Rukuba, Jos. The group was found in possession of locally fabricated rifles, pistols, and various tools used in the making of firearms.
