On Sunday, the Lagos State Police Command announced that the planned commemoration of the fourth anniversary of the #EndSARS protests would not take place, citing the lack of formal clearance from the demonstrators.

According to Lagos State Police Commissioner Olanrewaju Ishola, the protesters had not submitted the necessary notification or request for permission to hold the demonstration, which he deemed unconstitutional. Speaking to Channels Television, Ishola explained that while citizens have the right to protest, these rights must be exercised within the legal framework, which includes seeking police approval for public gatherings.

The police commissioner emphasized that law enforcement had been stationed at strategic locations across Lagos to prevent any disruptions or potential unrest. He noted that despite the planned commemoration, police operatives had secured areas traditionally associated with protests, including Freedom Park, Ikeja Underbridge, and other key spots around the state. Commissioner Ishola stated that the police were committed to maintaining law and order, while also ensuring that Lagos residents would not experience disruptions in their daily activities.

Ishola concluded by assuring the public that the police were working to provide improved security across Lagos and emphasized that the state’s operations would not be interrupted by unlawful protests.
