Eight young men labeled as “miscreants” were apprehended by the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) during an operation at Obanikoro Bus Stop, according to Tokunbo Wahab, the state’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources.
The arrests took place on Friday morning as part of a clearance operation initiated after a local resident raised concerns about the activities of the group. The commissioner highlighted that the individuals had been reported for robbing people of their valuables, particularly during the early morning and late-night hours.
Wahab detailed the operation on his X account, noting that KAI officials acted swiftly upon receiving the complaint. “In response to a report from a concerned resident regarding security issues at Obanikoro Bus Stop, our operatives conducted a clearance operation in the area, which resulted in the arrest of eight individuals found with substances believed to be Indian hemp and other hard drugs,” he stated.
He confirmed that the suspects have been profiled and will face charges in accordance with the state’s laws. The commissioner also mentioned that both the state government and the police have intensified efforts to combat criminal activities, targeting hideouts of miscreants throughout the area.
The authorities are committed to dislodging these groups, with many already arrested and taken to court. A screenshot of the commissioner’s post detailing the arrests has been shared publicly.
