According to report from Daily Trust Newspaper on Wednesday, October 16, Sgt. Abraham Uzuobo, a member of the Nigeria Police Force stationed at the Edo State Command, is under investigation following serious allegations involving a minor while she was in detention at the South-Ibie police division. The alleged victim, a 17-year-old girl, was reportedly held for suspected involvement in receiving stolen property.Sources familiar with the case revealed that when Uzuobo entered the detention area after Inspector Edith Eduma, who was monitoring the cell, briefly stepped out, Uzuobo allegedly unlocked the cell and took the girl to the administrative section. A video of the aftermath reportedly shows Uzuobo in an inappropriate situation with Inspector Eduma.

Suspicion arose when Inspector Eduma discovered the cell key was missing upon her return. She alerted her colleagues, leading to the discovery of Uzuobo and the minor together in an office. Reports indicate that instead of escalating the issue to senior officers, Eduma allegedly informed her husband and other police personnel, later accepting a bribe of N45,000 from Uzuobo to keep the matter concealed. Additional claims suggest she attempted to extort him for N1 million to prevent the video’s circulation online. This information was reported by Daily Trust Newspaper.

Both Uzuobo and Eduma have faced internal disciplinary proceedings and are facing recommendations for dismissal. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Moses Yamu, stated that a formal statement regarding the situation would be provided later.
