Cameroonian activist Comrade Netufo Tommy has recounted a harrowing encounter with the Nigerian police, claiming he faced unlawful detention, torture, and baseless accusations of terrorism and kidnapping. His experience has raised significant concerns about human rights practices in the region.
In his statement, he expressed profound gratitude to those who supported him during his ordeal. He specifically acknowledged the efforts of Comrade Wiseman, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), and Comrade Chris Uyot from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), who advocated on his behalf.
“I especially thank Leader Sowore for personally securing my bail on October 3, 2024. I am deeply appreciative of everyone who lent their support, even those I may not have mentioned. May God and our ancestors bless you all abundantly,” he stated.
Attempts by SaharaReporters to contact the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, as well as the Public Relations Officer of Zone 2 Command Headquarters, SP Ayuba Tunni Umma, were unsuccessful, as they did not respond to calls or text messages.
