Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has mandated that ministers, ministers of state, and heads of federal agencies restrict their official convoys to a maximum of three vehicles. This directive aims to cut down on government expenses, as outlined in a statement released on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

According to the presidency, this new regulation also limits the number of security personnel assigned to each official to five. The designated security detail will consist of four police officers and one officer from the Department of State Services (DSS). The statement emphasized that no extra vehicles or personnel will be permitted for their movements.

In the official announcement, President Tinubu stated, “Ministers, Ministers of State, and Heads of Agencies of the Federal Government are restricted to a maximum of three vehicles in their official convoys. No additional vehicles will be assigned to them for movement.”

Earlier this year, President Tinubu initiated various cost-reduction measures, including cutting the size of his entourage on international trips from 50 to 20 officials and limiting local trip delegations to 25. Similarly, the Vice President’s entourage was downsized to five for foreign travels and 15 for domestic ones.

The recent directive also instructs the National Security Adviser to collaborate with military, paramilitary, and security agencies to explore further reductions in their vehicle and personnel deployments.

All officials impacted by these new regulations are expected to comply immediately, highlighting the administration’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and efficiency in governance.
