The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency, carried out a raid on Urban 94.5FM, a popular radio station in Enugu State.

According to reports gathered on Tuesday morning, EFCC operatives stormed the station around 6 p.m. on Monday, interrupting a live broadcast. Presenters were detained, and equipment valued in the millions was confiscated.

One of the station’s broadcasters, Favour Ekoh, was reportedly removed from a live program, causing a major disruption. The incident has sparked concerns over the state of press freedom in the country.

In a statement released on Monday night, the management of Urban Radio expressed their shock at the raid. They revealed that the EFCC has yet to provide any formal explanation for the detention of their staff and the seizure of their equipment.

At the time of this report, the EFCC has not issued an official statement explaining the reason behind the operation.

SaharaReporters made efforts to contact Dele Oyewale, the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, but he did not respond to phone calls. He has also not replied to a text message requesting his comment on the matter.
