Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has appointed his daughter, Mrs. Helen Eno Obareki, as the acting First Lady following the death of his wife, Pastor Patience Umo Eno. This decision aims to honor her legacy, particularly her initiative, the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA).

The announcement was made during a condolence visit by Senator Oluremi Tinubu to the Eno family in Uyo on Friday. Senator Tinubu praised the governor’s choice, remarking, “This is a thoughtful way to sustain Patience’s legacy, much like practices in the United States.”

Reflecting on his deep bond with his late wife, Governor Eno shared, “I married her when she was 19, and I was 22. I called her Oluwa-Kemi because she was truly a gift from God.” He expressed his profound grief, stating, “Her passing is an irreplaceable loss for me. She was my embodiment of the biblical virtuous woman.”

During the transition of the First Lady’s responsibilities, Governor Eno introduced Helen, acknowledging the challenges ahead. “It is not an easy task, but I present our daughter, Helen, to continue the duties of the office,” he said.

Senator Tinubu also offered encouragement to Helen, saying, “Your mom didn’t bring you to me for nothing. I believe God will guide you.”

When asked about the possibility of remarrying, Governor Eno humorously responded, “I’m not considering remarrying anytime soon. I don’t have the money to pay another bride price.” He emphasized that his late wife’s legacy would live on through Helen, who will oversee the First Lady’s office and its initiatives.
