Honourable Alex Ikwechegh, representing Aba North and Aba South in the House of Representatives, has publicly apologized following an altercation with an e-hailing driver at his Maitama residence in Abuja. The incident, recorded by the driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, was posted online and quickly gained widespread attention.

In his statement, Hon. Ikwechegh expressed regret over his actions, admitting that his behavior was below the standards expected from a public official. “As a public servant, I recognize the trust my constituents and the Nigerian people place in me,” he remarked. “My behavior did not meet those expectations, and for that, I am sincerely sorry.”

Hon. Ikwechegh further apologized to Abuwatseya and acknowledged the impact his actions may have had on his constituents and the general public. He assured his full cooperation with the Nigerian Police as they investigate the matter, emphasizing his commitment to accountability.

The statement continued, “I, Honourable Alex Ikwechegh, wish to address the troubling incident at my residence, recently shared in a video showing my inappropriate conduct toward an Uber driver delivering a waybill for me. I deeply regret my actions, recognizing that they were unacceptable and not befitting of my office.”

Reiterating his commitment to public accountability, Ikwechegh added, “I am cooperating fully with the Nigerian Police investigation to ensure justice is served. I support their efforts to maintain the rights of all citizens, and I appreciate the immediate response from my party and the police, which underscores our shared dedication to the rule of law.”

Hon. Ikwechegh also revealed steps he is taking to prevent such incidents in the future, including professional counseling and involvement in community service projects aimed at promoting respect, empathy, and understanding within society.

He concluded with a call for unity and mutual respect among Nigerians: “We must all work together to create a society where dignity and respect are upheld for everyone. Thank you for your understanding, and I hope you’ll join me on this journey toward healing and positive change.”
