American rapper, Curtis James Jackson III known professionally as 50 Cent, says he turned down a $3 million offer to perform at Donald Trumpโs New York rally.
Despite previously expressing admiration for the former president, the rapper revealed on The Breakfast Club that he โgot a callโ asking him to perform his track โMany Men (Wish Death)โ at the Republican national convention for a similar fee.
โI didnโt talk to them about that kinda stuff. Iโm afraid about politics,โ he said.
The 2003 song โMany Men (Wish Death)โ, inspired by the rapperโs near-fatal shooting in 2000, recently saw a resurgence among Trump supporters and hit the top 10 on iTunes.
โHe says โfightโ,โ Jackson said about Trump last month. โAll right. And thatโs exactly what I did after I got shot. I just went into fight mode. People identify with it that way.โ
Earlier this year, he also wrote on social media, โI think Trumpโs gonna be president again, but Iโm not going to say that.โ
Trumpโs rally, held at Madison Square Garden, drew criticism after comedian Tony Hinchcliffeโs racially charged jokes.
Following Hinchcliffeโs remarks about Puerto Rico, celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez and Bad Bunny publicly supported Kamala Harris in her campaign for president.
