A 45-year-old man, identified as Kazeem, tragically drowned in a river at Odo Tente, a community bordering Lagos and Ogun states, after reportedly consuming a substance suspected to be a hard drug known as Colorado.
Eyewitnesses say the substance caused Kazeem to behave erratically. Shortly after, he ran uncontrollably and jumped into the river, leading to his unfortunate death.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday. According to Hundeyin, the report was lodged at the Alagbado Police Division around 11 a.m. on October 11, 2024. “Kazeem, 45, under the influence of a suspected hard drug, ran uncontrollably and jumped into the river at the Odo Tente boundary between Lagos and Ogun states. He drowned and died,” Hundeyin explained.
Following the report, detectives from the Alagbado Police Division arrived at the scene to investigate, taking photographs and gathering information about the incident.
The deceased’s father was contacted and, in accordance with local customs, requested that Kazeem’s body be buried near the river where he drowned.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident have concluded.
