Two suspected fraudsters, Tony Uche Godfrey, 38, and Onome Adigun, 26, have been apprehended in Lagos for allegedly defrauding a man, Odidaka Christian, of N29 million. The fraud was carried out under the guise of selling a Lexus RX 350 2018 Model SUV, which never materialized.
According to P.M.EXPRESS, the incident took place on August 19, 2024, at Idiroko bus stop, Maryland area of Lagos. The suspects, along with others still at large, convinced Christian that they were selling the vehicle. After negotiating the price, Christian transferred the money to them.
Once the payment was received, the suspects disappeared, cutting off all communication and failing to deliver the vehicle as promised. Christian reported the fraud to the Ikeja Division of the Police, who promptly initiated an investigation. The suspects were tracked down, arrested, and brought to the station for questioning.
Following their interrogation, the suspects were charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court under the Criminal Laws of Lagos State. They are accused of violating Sections 313, 314, and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Both suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges. The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, requested a court date to present evidence against them.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, set bail at N2 million with two sureties of similar amounts. The sureties must provide proof of income and tax payment, and their addresses will be verified by the court.
The case has been adjourned to October 24, 2024, for mention. In the meantime, the defendants are held at the Kirikiri correctional center until they meet their bail conditions.
