The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State has confirmed the tragic death of two children in a late-night road accident that occurred in Kere, within the Ewekoro local government area. The accident, which took place around 11 p.m. on Saturday, also left seven others injured, with varying degrees of severity.
In a statement released on Sunday, Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Ogun State FRSC Command, attributed the unfortunate incident to both overloading and excessive speed. The vehicle involved in the crash was a white Toyota Camry, bearing the registration number AGL36JA.
The injured victims were promptly transported to Ifo General Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment. The remains of the deceased children have also been deposited at the same hospital.
Detailing the incident, the statement noted, “Operatives from the FRSC Itori Unit Command conducted a rescue operation on Saturday, 31st August 2024, at Kere, Itori, after a single-vehicle crash occurred around 11 p.m. The accident involved a white Toyota Camry with the registration number AGL36JA.”
It further disclosed that nine individuals were involved in the crash, comprising seven adult males, one male child, and one female child. Sadly, the two children succumbed to their injuries, while the adult passengers sustained various injuries.
“The suspected causes of the crash were excessive speed and overloading. The car was overloaded with passengers,” Okpe added.
