The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced that the Federal Executive Council (FEC), led by President Bola Tinubu, has approved the construction of 40 houses in Abuja for judges across the country.

Wike shared this information with journalists following the FEC meeting held on Monday, revealing that the houses will be located in the upscale Kantampe district of Abuja.

According to Wike, the project is set to be completed within 15 months, although he did not provide an estimate of the cost involved. He explained that out of the 40 houses, 20 will be allocated to the FCT High Court, 10 to the Federal High Court, and another 10 to the Appeal Court.

Wike stated, “It is inconvenient for them to do their work. The president directed the FCT, through the FCDA, to immediately construct 40 quarters for judges and justices in the Katampe district.”

Additionally, Wike revealed that the construction of access roads to these judicial quarters, which is expected to be completed by December, has also been approved.

It is noteworthy that since the Supreme Court ruling that resulted in Tinubu’s presidency, he has increased the salaries of Nigerian judges by 300%, with the Chief Judge now set to earn N64 million annually.
