The European Commission and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency have warned airlines to avoid Lebanese and Israeli airspace for the coming month.
The warning by European aviation authorities came amid intense air strikes and missile fire between Israel and Hezbollah.
SaharaReporters earlier reported that Israeli’s Defence Forces had on announced on Saturday that its largest airstrike at headquarters of Hezbollah in Beirut the capital of Lebanon had killed leader of the Iran militant group.
“An overall intensification of air strikes and degradation in the security situation has been noted, impacting the safety of airspace over Israel and Lebanon,” the agency said on in statement on Saturday as cited by AFP.
The recommendation not to enter the two air spaces is valid until October 31 2024 and can be reviewed earlier and adapted or withdrawn subject to the revised assessment, EASA said.
“EASA will continue to closely monitor the situation, with a view to assess whether there is an increase or decrease of risks for EU aircraft operators as a result of the evolution of the threat,” the statement said.
