A 32-year-old saleswoman, Orebanjo Temitope, has been remanded in custody in Lagos after being charged with stealing N3 million from her employer. The incident reportedly occurred at Tejucret Ventures, a company located on Gbagada Road, Aina Close, Bariga, Lagos, where she had been employed as a sales representative.

According to police reports, Temitope is accused of misappropriating a total sum of N3,066,576.35 between 2017 and August 2024. The funds were said to belong to her employer, Monsurat Salami Tejumola. The offense was charged under Section 280, which is punishable under Section 287 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.

The police further alleged that Temitope abused her position as a sales lady at Tejucret Ventures by violating the company’s policies and procedures for personal gain. This misconduct was cited as a breach of Section 73(1) of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.

The alleged theft came to light following an internal audit by the company, which revealed discrepancies in the financial records. After tracing the missing funds to the period of Temitope’s employment, the matter was reported to the Area F Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja. She was subsequently arrested and detained for questioning.

Following her arrest, Temitope was interrogated by the police, and after the investigation, she was charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offense. Temitope pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In response, the prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, requested the court to schedule a hearing date so that the police could present evidence to prove the allegations against her.

Presiding Magistrate Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi granted Temitope bail in the sum of N500,000, along with two sureties who must provide proof of their means of livelihood and tax payments. The court also required that their residential addresses be verified.

The case was adjourned until October 28, 2024, for mention, and Temitope was ordered to be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Center until she meets her bail conditions.
