Lagos State Police operatives have successfully prevented vandals from stealing handrail protectors on the 3rd Mainland Bridge. During the operation, authorities arrested one suspect and recovered 28 aluminum rails that had already been removed. The incident occurred on September 16, 2024, when the culprits attempted to strip the rails from the bridge.

According to Police Public Relations Officer SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the arrested suspect, identified as Yakubu Yusuf, is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation regarding his role in the vandalism. Meanwhile, police are actively searching for other members of the gang who managed to escape.

Hundeyin provided details about the operation, stating that detectives from the Onikan Division received a tip-off about the vandalism at approximately 6:42 a.m. The Division Police Officer (DPO) promptly led an anti-crime patrol team to the location. There, they apprehended 28-year-old Yakubu Yusuf and recovered about 21 bars of aluminum railings that had been taken from the bridge.

The other gang members fled upon noticing the police presence, and efforts to locate them are ongoing. Hundeyin confirmed that once the investigation concludes, the arrested suspect will face charges under the state’s criminal laws.
