The Department of State Services (DSS) did not arrest Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, according to a clarification by his media aide, Valentine Obienyem. In response to circulating rumors about Obi and his wife Margaret being detained, Obienyem issued a statement on Tuesday to dismiss the reports as entirely unfounded.
Obienyem explained that the false claims began circulating on Saturday but were swiftly addressed as fabrications. He also noted that at the time of the alleged incident, Obi wasn’t even in Anambra State.
“On Saturday, Mr. Obi was in Rwanda attending to important matters,” Obienyem said. “He has since returned to Nigeria and is presently in Edo State, where he is fully engaged in both party and national activities.”
Obienyem also emphasized that no DSS raid occurred at Obi’s residence, further urging the public to disregard the false information. He reassured that any legitimate updates concerning Obi would be communicated through the appropriate channels.
“As the situation progresses, Mr. Obi remains focused on his national commitments, while his team continues to provide accurate updates on his whereabouts and activities,” the statement concluded.
